PTL Squad beat Leander

In the end just 20 points separated the two teams after a very exciting PTL gala in Belfast on Saturday night. Portadown put a disappointing performance last time out against Limavady behind them to defeat Leander 582 points to 562. The signs were good from the opening series of IM Relays where Portadown won five of the eight events to take an early lead. The youngest ‘A’ Boys and Girls proved much too strong for the home team and dominated their rivals in every individual stroke as well as Individual Medley and Freestyle Relay. It was great to see such a performance from this age group and it was their efforts which meant that Leander were always playing ‘catch-up’. The older squad swimmers also did their bit against a talented Leander upper age group squad. There were several ‘too close to call’ finishes but the early lead was enough to see us through. It was also an opportunity for the Portadown swimmers to see Sycerika Mc Mahon from Leander in action. Sycerikahas competed for Ireland in this year’s Olympic Games. Overall it was a solid team performance and we can look forward to several PB’s. Times will be posted on the club noticeboard. Thanks to our hosts who ran the gala like clockwork and who provided such a fantastic supper, their hospitality was much appreciated.
