Happy Christmas 2012!

snowmanMay we take this opportunity to wish all members of the club and their families a very Happy Christmas. Swimming sessions will resume on MONDAY 7th JANUARY 2013 although the Arthur McDonald Novice Gala will take place in Newry on Saturday 5th.Early indications are that weather conditions are near perfect for Santa, Rudolph and Co. and we hope that everyone listed in his ‘Nice’ book will wake up to find he has left a present or two! Thanks to everyone who has helped throughout the year, the club relies on many ‘behind the scenes’ people in order to run.

PTL Squad beat Leander

In the end just 20 points separated the two teams after a very exciting PTL gala in Belfast on Saturday night. Portadown put a disappointing performance last time out against Limavady behind them to defeat Leander 582 points to 562. The signs were good from the opening series of IM Relays where Portadown won five of the eight events to take an early lead. The youngest ‘A’ Boys and Girls proved much too strong for the home team and dominated their rivals in every individual stroke as well as Individual Medley and Freestyle Relay. It was great to see such a performance from this age group and it was their efforts which meant that Leander were always playing ‘catch-up’. The older squad swimmers also did their bit against a talented Leander upper age group squad. There were several ‘too close to call’ finishes but the early lead was enough to see us through. It was also an opportunity for the Portadown swimmers to see Sycerika Mc Mahon from Leander in action. Sycerikahas competed for Ireland in this year’s Olympic Games. Overall it was a solid team performance and we can look forward to several PB’s. Times will be posted on the club noticeboard. Thanks to our hosts who ran the gala like clockwork and who provided such a fantastic supper, their hospitality was much appreciated.

Leander (Belfast) V Portadown

It’s our third and final away trip of the season on Saturday 1st December against Leander. Swimmers are to meet at Cascades at 4.15 pm for the relatively short run to Belfast, warm-up is scheduled for 5.30pm and we hope to get the gala underway by 6.00 pm. Once again we plan to introduce a number of ‘new’ swimmers so that they can get an idea what a competitive gala is like. It has been some time since we  last met Leander, let’s see if we can finish 2012 with a win. We will require the help of parents for timekeeping duties on the night.

PTL Gala Limavady V Portadown

Our second fixture of the season is away to Limavady ASC on Saturday 27th October 2012. The team coach will leave Cascades at 3pm, swimmers are asked to be there in good time. Priority seating will of course go to team members and coaches first followed by any parents who wish to travel with the squad. All team members should wear official poolside kit and swim in PASC hats. Due to this gala there is NO SWIMMING on SATURDAY.

Halloween Break

There is no swimming during the week beginning Monday 29th October. The usual sessions will resume on Monday 5th November!

Arthur McDonald Novice Gala Date Confirmed

January 5th 2012 has just been confirmed as the date for the Arthur McDonald Gala to be hosted as always by Newry and Mourne ASC. The problem over pool hire has been solved and we can now begin to plan for what is one of the swimming highlights of the season. Further information will be made available as soon as possible but those interested should pencil in the date in diaries.

PASC Swim Colours

Swimmers are reminded that when representing the club official club swimwear should be worn. We realise that several swimmers have opted for ‘knee length’ suits but there should not be a problem wearing PASC swim hats! The hats help spectators to follow races and make it easier for officials such as touch judges to do their job. Furthermore, since we compete as a team it is important that we look a team by adhering to recognised club colours. Anyone wishing to order poolside kit is reminded that Wednesday 24th October is the ONLY opportunity to do so. Don’t miss out!
